Natural ways to fight cancer: foods that fight free radicals

Health Science

Happy and Healthy New Year 2019!

For this year the World Health Organization resolution No1 is “Healthy Diet“! This recommendation is geared toward prevention of most of non-communicable diseases such as cardio-vascular diseases and diabetes, and crucially, it is proven to be the best of natural ways to fight cancer.

Cancer is becoming more prevalent in both high- and low-income countries. Particularly in low-income countries, it had been believed as a curse and death sentence due to lack of access to information and to treatment of cancer. Of note, prevention of cancer requires awareness and enough information on its causes and risk factors.

However, it is rather becoming a speculation through media and social networks, and seems like everything from antiperspirants to pesticides, from cell phones to power lines, from microwave to plastic bottles, and from eating red meat to anything you may have heard of can cause cancer!

Now my question is “Are we able to live out of our polluted environment?”, “should we stop eating red meat?”, “should we stop using phones?”, etc.

The good news in this article is that there are natural cancer prevention supplements and cancer prevention diet. Maintaining healthy lifestyle and prevent exposure to known risk factors can help reduce the likelihood of developing cancer.

Relationship between free radicals and cancer

What we can not deny here is the relationship, in one way or another, of the above speculated risk factors of cancer. This is likely to be true given that most of those listed are major source of free radicals.

Free radicals, being unstable molecule, were scientifically proven to be associated with cancer development. through averting metabolism and damaging DNA, proteins and lipids of body cells.

Mutated DNA plays a vital role –especially in the initiation and progression by altering, miscoding and/or oncogenes activation– in the process of carcinogenesis.

Radical-linked damage of proteins and DNA play a major role in the development of diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, arteriosclerosis, and arthritis just to name a few.

The foods that fight free radicals

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” –                                                                                    Hippocrates, 460 B.C.

If you give your body the right nutrients it will build itself healthy and fit. I am explaining it from religious and scientific perspectives as a believer and a researcher:

From the universe creation, the bible recommends plants as human foods (Genesis 1:29): Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. God created plants to be food for His creatures, and these were enough to feed and make healthy a human.

The science echoes this health recommendation of using variety of vegetables like spriluna (superfood), potato, spinach, tomatoes, and legumes to ensure strong immune body, free of free radicals. Fruits have been also proven to be free radicals scavengers. The most reported fruits are berries, cherries, citrus, prunes, and olives.

How convenient is it for you to get organic fruits and vegetables?

I know you have access to a variety of fruits and vegetables from your nearby market, local supermarket or from your garden. But my question is, are these really safe and nutrients-rich?

These vegetables and fruits are supposed to be natural; but the reality is that the current world trend is heading to an increased food production and rather than on quality of food. The results is that you will find much of genetically modified food and less of organic ones.

There are still ways you can have safe and healthy food with 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day, either by naturally growing them with compost manure, keeping them from pesticides; or by using nutritional supplements from natural plants.

Moreover, due to busy schedule in real life with competing priorities, I recommend the use of food supplements without reservation because they are made ready and easy to be consumed and are packed to satisfy daily nutritional needs in vitamins, minerals and other rare nutrients. These ingredients supplement routine meals that are dominated by carbohydrates and animal products.

Natural supplements cancer prevention

A recent study argued the shift in cancer prevention approaches towards following a healthy eating pattern across the lifespan; eating a variety of foods, with a focus on nutrient density and amount; and limiting calories from added sugars and saturated fats and reducing sodium intake.

With the intention to make life easy and enjoyable, the most technologically advanced dietary supplement manufacturers are now using Syner-Tech and Nano technologies to condensate the recommended dietary daily intake into a single capsule. These manufacturers such as Nature’s Way use organic plants to ensure that you obtain the right density and amount of nutrients at your convenience and without exposure to adverse effects of genetically modified organisms.

Additionally, those food supplements go through certifications by international certification bodies such as Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Vegetarian Certification, ISO, HACCP, GMO Free Certification, Organic Certification, and so on. This certification aims to ensure they meet standards, being of good quality, safe and organic products.

Why to get cancer while naturally preventable?

Cancer is caused by a number of unhealthy environment factors including mainly free radicals. This means that majority of cancers are preventable.

While acknowledging that there is no magic bullet to eliminate cancer given that there are genetic causes among others, we can still fight those preventable. I call upon everyone who is worried about cancer to consider in her/his daily meal 5 servings of fruits and vegetables. These plants are amazing and real free radical scavengers! Veggies and fruits-based nutritional supplements provide convenient ways of meeting daily recommended ingredients while saving you time. Go green, eat plant products, stay healthy and live long!

    1. Thank you Ashley,
Food supplements are breakthrough products with vitamins, enzymes, minerals, amino acids etc. not just vitamins.
Our community needs awareness on these ready-to-use and user-friendly nutritional products.

  1. Wow! first of all let me just say a big thank you for this amazing and educative article about cancer. I am so happy I found your page. I am guilty for not eating enough servings of vegetable per day. I will be making that change. Thank you for sharing this amazing article. It was very well written and I look forward to reading more articles like this.

  2. Great post and with cancer being on everyone’s mind these days, any help is appreciated!

I live in a northern part of the world, and the only fresh veggies we get in winter come from far away. I find myself torn between buying some of them for a change and sticking with frozen veggies which are usually picked when the veg is at its peak. Frozen usually wins.

Aside from concerns about pesticides and how the fruit/veg is treated for transportation, do you think having fresh food with its fiber is more important than where the food comes from? Am I increasing my chances for getting cancer by eating foods that are not in season locally?

    1. Thank you, Irma
Dealing with vegetables and fruits to keep them fresh and healthy is a big challenge. Some storage conditions deteriorate with risk of loosing temperature-sensitive ingredients such as Vitamin C (antioxidant). That’s why innovative technologies are used to surely extract needed ingredients. However, I don’t think seasonality and location where those organic veggies/fruits are from can be exposing you to the risk of cancer!
      Happy to discuss more.

  3. This is a really interesting read Theoneste, recently I watched the Pill currently featured on Netflix and the lack of regulation around food supplements and vitamins is interesting to see. It truly is so hard to determine what is good for you and what has been genetically modified or mass produced for the purpose of profit. How do we really know that the supplements are 100% organic and of natural materials and not synthetic substances popped into pills, when there is a significant lack of regulation in the marketplace? How do we know the food we are purchasing is truly organic when only a certain % of the product only needs to meet organic requirements? For me personally, how can such vibrant colours of fruit and vegetables that we are to derive our nutrients from, be reproduced and popped into a bleach white pill? A stark white pill doesn’t seem to be a very natural product.
It is a great timely article and would love to know your thoughts on the above. I’m looking forward to following your page further as most of us do want to live happy healthy and free from chemicals and modified foods, however its not always so easy to do so, when the mission for global organisations is to make profit.

    1. Thank you Nicole for your comment,
I really understand your worries. What I can recall is that the manufacturer does extraction of needed ingredients from fruits and vegetables, which means that the pill or solutions can look different from the original raw materials. certification bodies check that what is claimed to be produced is right and that the product meets standards. I personally believe that certified products are safe until proven otherwise; I check the FDA, GMP, Vegetarian Certification, and GMO Free Certifications and I have seen great health results. Here is my number 1 recommendation:

It’s up to the consumer to check again and choose according to her/his preference.
This subject is open to further discussion from the audience.

      My best
